Two Teens Die In Weekend Drownings
Beating the heat turned deadly for two teenagers spending the weekend at North Texas lakes.
First responders want the tragic drownings to serve as a reminder of the dangers of large groups and inexperience at the lake. On Saturday, 15 year-old Darrion Powell got into trouble at Joe Pool Lake at a birthday celebration for his sister. The teen swam out to far when he either got tired, or got a cramp. His body was recovered a short time later. Powell would have been starting his sophomore year at Dunbar High School in Fort Worth in a few weeks. Yesterday, a second tragedy, as the Dallas lake search and rescue team recovered the body of a 19 year-old man who apparently swam too far out and drowned. His name has not been released.
