Triple Digits Continue Most Of The Week
100 Degree Heat Through Thursday
Hot one hundreds continue today through Thursday as a strong ridge of high pressure controls the weather pattern for North Texas and much of the Central Plains. This hot weather pattern is problematic in two ways: first the intense heat and second the poor air quality. With air temperatures hitting 100-103, the Heat Index will reach 105 degrees. But, more problematic is the smog. A Level Orange Air Pollution Watch continues today and will likely remain in place through at least Thursday thanks to very light winds.
Our weather pattern shows possible signs of easing very slightly this weekend and into early next week with the ridge breaking down a bit at least enough to allow a some tropical moisture up from the Gulf. This may bring enough cloud cover to ease our high temperatures back from the 100 degree mark and into the middle 90s. The rain chances look pretty slim and reserved only for South Texas.
Tropical Storm Debby
Debby had 60 mph winds, but weakened to 45 mph winds overnight. The storm is not well organized thanks modest wind shear from the west along with dry air. With Debby nearly over the weekend, weakening may also be attributed to likely cooler sea surface temperatures under Debby thanks to rainfall and upwelling of cooler subsurface water. The latest forecast has been adjusted to move the track northeast into Florida north of Tampa in its present weakened state.
