GRANBURY (CBSDFW) -- A toddler was found unresponsive in a family pool near Granbury on Tuesday morning and pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Hood County deputies responded to the 900 block of Skylark Drive around 9:15 a.m.
Deputies encountered a very distraught mother, who says her two-year-old son was found floating in the above-ground pool.
Deputies started CPR before paramedics took over and transported the child to Lake Granbury Medical Center. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Hood County Sheriff's Lieutenant Johnny Rose says the boy managed to climb a short ladder to access the pool. The mother says she only left the child alone for a minute.
"In this summer season people with pools should be mindful of pool safety and take steps to prevent future tragedies. It only takes a few moments for something to go wrong," Rose said.
The case is under investigation by the Hood County Sheriff's Office and Child Protective Services.
