DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Home burglaries and porch pirates; the holidays are here and the number of crimes are up.

Kelly Dowling told CBS 11 that she is vigilant about checking the mail to bring delivered packages inside. She said that her neighborhood began posting warnings to others on Facebook after a string of holiday thefts in 2015.

"Some of our things didn't show up and I wondered if they were grabbed," said Dowling.

In cities across the country, people are posting warnings on Facebook about the uptick in holiday crimes. Some are even putting up Amazon Lockers to combat mail theft.

Some are turning to virtual security options to protect their homes.

ADT Security Consultant, Bobby Pullen, said he's busy through the new year with installations for new clients. Pullen said many reach out because they were victims of theft and want a solution. But this season, he said more clients are reporting car break-ins, robberies and issues with deliveries.

"We are seeing the cases with clients who order something expensive and it showed up broken and they want video to know what happened," he said.

More police are asking for Pullen's help since surveillance video can help to solve holiday crimes.

"It happens more frequently than we would like," said Pullen.
