IRVING(CBSDFW.COM) - The memory of three fallen Irving police officers was top of mind Tuesday in Veterans Memorial Park.
During a ceremony there, the brotherhood of the thin blue line remembered three of their own who lost their lives serving and protecting.
Officers Glen Holmes, Aubrey Hawkins and Andrew Esparza weren't just doing their job. They were men on a mission who wanted to help people and mold a better society in pursuit of this mission they paid the ultimate sacrifice, the city says.
Officers, city employees and the families of the fallen marched together down city streets and attended the somber ceremony.
Irving Police Chief Larry Boyd said, "Their lives and the spirit of their service has served to make us stronger and we are blessed to have them as part of our heritage."
The legacy of this department intertwined with the stories of each of their fallen proves all of them give some and some gave all.
"What we commemorate here today is the memory and legacy of three Irving police officers who laid down their lives in the service of our community," said Boyd.
