Three Alarm Fire Breaks Out At Solo Cup Company Warehouse

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A fire that started in the wax processing area of the Solo Cup Company Wednesday shot up the wall, rushed into the duct space and spread horizontally across the building, sending plumes of thick black smoke into the air above the 2.5 million square foot warehouse.

Dallas Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said a small fire started at 5:22 p.m. inside the building at 4444 West Ledbetter Drive. An employee tried to put it out with a fire-extinguisher, but the fire "became too far advanced" and quickly required three alarms and more than 60 fire fighters to douse.

None of the 200 employees were injured, Evans said.

"Personnel with Solo did an outstanding job in immediately sounding the fire alarm with the fire grew out of control as well as having an evacuation plan that helped everyone out in a safe, expedient and orderly fashion," he said.

Fire fighters were able to quickly contain the flames by approaching the blaze from multiple directions, Evans said. At 8 p.m., fire fighters were putting out final hotspots so investigators could go inside and figure out what started it.

Management closed operations for the remainder of the night, although there's no official word on whether the warehouse will reopen Thursday.
