Back-To-School Day at Fair Park
They started lining up before 3 a.m. at Fair Park, waiting to get into the annual Dallas Mayor's Back-to-School Fair which provides free school supplies and services to low-income families. Planners expect as many as 50-thousand people this year. Mayor Tom Leppert and Dallas school superintendent Michael Hinojosa will be among the dignitaries helping out with the distribution. There will also be free immunizations along with medical, dental and vision screenings and even haircuts for school-age children. Those who did not register earlier can still do so today but they'll need to bring a photo I-D, proof of Dallas residency and proof of income. To qualify for the free supplies, household income must fall below federal poverty levels. The doors opened at 8 a.m. and the event continues until 3 p.m. in the Automobile and Centennial buildings.
