"The Jock Itch" with Jasmine Sadry: WHAT?! Tony Romo in the U.S. Open?!

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) Leading off my "Jock Itch" for Today: Tony Romo continues to pursue his love of golf, applying to play in June's U.S. Open!

He's one of 8,300 golfers applying to play in the big shindig and this will be his third time trying to qualify. He's never made the field before and this year, he'll be trying to do JUST that, alongside former Braves star, John Smoltz.

Tony will take part in the 18-hole local qualifying round at Stonebridge Ranch and Country Club in McKinney on May 9th. He would then need to advance through a second 36-hole qualifying round to compete in the U.S. Open (June 16-19th)  at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

FYI, to be eligible for qualifying, amateurs MUST have a handicap no higher than 1.4. www.bloomberg.com

And in OTHER "Itch" worthy news...

Now that the 2011 NFL Draft has officially wrapped up, there's a different quarterback battle heating up between No. 1 pick Cam Newton and Jimmy Clausen!

In a recent interview, Jimmy was asked if he would be willing to give up his No. 2 jersey (the same one Cam wore at Auburn) to which he said, "It's mine now!"

So far, Jimmy has been VERY cordial to Cam, sending him messages through Twitter and texts, but this whole mess over the jersey number COULD fan the flames of what is projected to already be one of the most intriguing quarterback battles heading into the 2011 season.

AND sources are saying that since there's such a massive hype surrounding Cam (after the year he had at Auburn and winning the Heisman--which that's a WHOLE other topic that I don't even want to get into right now) Carolina MAY have to force Jimmy to surrender his jersey number, since they'll want to make their new baby boy quarterback happy at ANY cost... www.yardbarker.com

Speaking of Cam, he didn't waste ANY time celebrating being the No. 1 overall pick in this weekend's draft! The New York Post is reporting that he had a private meal at a trendy Manhattan restaurant called, Philippe, and became quite the party boy at the Under Armour party with Falcons No. 6 pick Julio Jones.

At one point, Cam sprayed the crowd with champagne, keeping his sunglasses on the entire time; proof that he's not just a con artist, but also a royal douche canoe... www.nypost.com

Jenn Sterger says, "I want those Brett Favre junk photos back NOW!"

Excuse me, Jenn?

Apparently, the out of work "TV personality" has filed a lawsuit against her former agent, Phillip Reese, complaining that "all text messages, e-mails and other digital communications she received" from Brett are hers and she wants them BACK!

She claims that it's all because she wants to keep Phillip from cashing in on a book based on the Brett junk photo scandal. www.nypost.com

Could there be an Andy Pettitte comeback!?!?

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Andy had told friends that he definitely won't pitch THIS season, but isn't ruling out 2012!

I don't know how that's going to fare, considering a few months ago, Yankees GM Brian Cashman told Andy to not "Favre" them.

The 38-year-old lefty ended his 16-year career this past February with a 240-138 record and a 3.88 ERA. His 203 wins as a Yankee ranks third behind Hall of Famers Whitey Ford (236) and Red Ruffing (231) all-time. www.chicagotribune.com

ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit has already shown that he can't take criticism and is SO sensitive that he actually MOVED his family earlier this year from Ohio to Nashville JUST to get away from the Buckeyes fans trashing him!

Well NOW, he's flat-out deleted his Twitter page over negative comments from Ohio State fans.

Kirk, grow a set already!

He said, "The day I moved from Columbus I decided to pick up twitter and get involved … then, when things broke down … I haven't been on for two or three days … for me to have to sit and defend if I love Ohio State is the most asinine thing … I'm going to stop engaging with a lot of the fans for a while." www.biglead.com

Wayne Gretzky's NHL rookie card went for a whopping $94, 163 at an online sports memorabilia auction over the weekend!

Sure, it's easy to find a Gretzky rookie card on eBay, but it's rare to find one that doesn't have ANY flaws and imperfections, as in REALLY mint condition.

SCP Auctions quotes it as "arguable the most valuable modern trading card in existence."

Um.... YA THINK!??!

And finally...

According to the New York Times, high school prospect Kevin Ware was lured to UCF by a convicted felon!

This makes TOTAL sense now, since Kevin announced abruptly that he was de-committing from Central Florida because of reasons he "didn't want to speak about right now."

Kevin is ranked as no. 56 in college basketball prospects in the nation by Rivals.com.

Here's an excerpt from the New York Times article:

"Central Florida, it turns out, had an ally in its recruitment of Ware:  Kenneth Caldwell, a Chicago man with a substantial criminal record and  apparent ties to a prominent sports agency. Ware said Caldwell called  him repeatedly to talk up Central Florida, traveled to Atlanta to meet  with his family and even arranged joint phone conversations with the  university's basketball coach, Donnie Jones, and his staff — contact  prohibited by the N.C.A.A.

'He was pushing for U.C.F.,' Ware said of Caldwell in a telephone interview Thursday.

Informed of Caldwell's background, Ware on Thursday said he would not attend Central Florida.

Ware is one of three highly regarded recruits who had some dealings with  Caldwell and who then decided in recent months to commit to Central  Florida, a degree of recruiting success that baffled many people  involved in college sports."

UCF was already on probation from 2008 through 2010 for recruiting violations in the football program!

Back to Kevin: he said that after de-committing from Central Florida, he was interested in any program that wanted him, listing Louisville and UGA as his frontrunners.

I'm not sure if Kevin REALLY wants to get involved with UGA, seeing as though there's drama THERE with the school just saying that it didn't release "mystery" basketball recruit Bobby Parks Jr., from his letter of intent, pending further investigation.

Per The Atlanta-Journal Constitution:

"The 6-foot-4 guard was recruited and signed in last November's early period with ex-Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt. Gregory, the new coach of the Yellow Jackets, has only had contact via email with Parks and his family, who live in the Philippines.

The recruit's father wrote in an email to the AJC on Thursday saying that Parks had requested a scholarship release from Georgia Tech because of the coaching change."

And THAT'S my "Jock Itch!"
