Texas Tech Looks For 1st Conference Win Vs West Virginia
LUBBOCK (CBSDFW.COM/AP) -- Kliff Kingsbury and the Red Raiders started Big 12 play 4-0 in 2013. It's been a different story in Kingsbury's second season.
Texas Tech is trying to avoid starting conference play with three straight losses for the first since 1990. West Virginia aims to build off its first Big 12 win, a 33-14 victory over Kansas last week that followed a home loss to Oklahoma.
WEST VIRGINIA (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) at TEXAS TECH (2-3, 0-2), 11 a.m. CT Saturday
Line: West Virginia by 6.
Series Record: Texas Tech leads 2-1.
KEY MATCHUP
Texas Tech offense vs. West Virginia defense.
The Red Raiders, with the nation's 11th-best passing offense and third best in the Big 12 (335.4 yards per game), are looking to find a consistent rhythm behind QB Davis Webb and WRs Jakeem Grant and Bradley Marquez. The Mountaineers have allowed just three passing touchdowns and rank 21st nationally in pass defense at 186.8 yards per game.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Texas Tech: Webb seems to have recovered from a shoulder injury to his non-throwing arm two weeks ago. He had a tough game in last week's loss, throwing a career-high four interceptions (he has 10 for the season). Still, he's thrown for 1,603 yards and 16 TDs.
West Virginia: WR Kevin White leads the nation in receiving yards (765) and receiving yards per game (153). The 6-3, 210-pound senior also leads the Big 12 in receptions per game (9.6) and is third in the conference in TDs.
