Texas Rangers Bring Another Pitcher To Camp
SURPRISE, Ariz. (CBSDFW.COM) - The Texas Rangers announced that they have acquired Kelvin De La Cruz from the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations.
The left-handed pitcher went 5-6 with a 4.19 ERA in 23 games with Cleveland's AA affiliate in 2011. The Rangers say De La Cruz has been a starter for most of his professional career.
He signed with the Indians as a free agent in 2004 and was designated for assignment on February 13.
In a news release from the team, the Rangers pointed out that left handed opponents batted .143 against De La Cruz. Does that make him a candidate for the bullpen where left handed pitching help is needed?
With Tuesday's trade, the Rangers now have 59 players in Spring Training camp.
Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report for Spring Training Wednesday. They'll have their first workout on Thursday. The rest of the players will report over the weekend.
The Rangers prized free agent signing, Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish, arrived in Surprise, Arizona earlier today. He will talk to the media on Thursday.
Gina Miller will begin a series of live reports from Rangers Training Camp Wednesday on CBS 11 and on TXA 21 The Fan at 6:30 P.M.
