AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Religious rights v. gay rights; it's a tale of two issues - as well as two hot-button bills scheduled for House votes Tuesday.

H.B. 4105 - would bar state, county and local officials from issuing or enforcing a same-sex marriage license, and prevent recognition of gay marriages performed in other states.

Meanwhile, S.B. 2065 - up for debate and passage - is a religious objections bill that would excuse clergy members from presiding over weddings that violate their religious beliefs. It would also allow religious organizations to refuse to sell goods or provide services to same-sex couples.

Votes for this litigious legislation comes as the Senate prepares to approve its own religious objections measure; this one also shielding clergy members from officiating gay marriages they oppose on religious grounds.

Gov. Greg Abbott took to Twiter last week to weigh in on the measure, "Pastors' religious liberty to perform weddings must be protected. I hope to see this bill on my desk."

Texas has a similar ban that was approved by voters in 2005.

On the national level, the Supreme Court will hear same sex arguments this summer. If Republican legislators have their way in the state, gay marriage would remain illegal in Texas, regardless of the SCOTUS decision.

Currently, Gallup estimates that nearly 400,000 gay couples have tied the knot.
