Texas Drug Felon Gets Jail For Firearms
DALLAS (AP) - A convicted drug runner has been sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison after more than a dozen firearms were found at his fortified Central Texas home.
A federal judge in Dallas on Wednesday afternoon sentenced 31-year-old Erik Willis of Purdon.
Willis in July was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing an unregistered firearm while on supervised release. Willis in 2005 was convicted of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Prosecutors say Willis in April 2011 choked a Garrett police officer during a traffic stop, then fled.
Law officers later searched the suspect's home, about 60 miles south of Dallas, and found more than 3 pounds of marijuana, $150,000 and 13 firearms. The house had a hidden room, steel curtains and surveillance equipment.
