Irving officer shoots woman who advanced with a knife, police say
An Irving police officer shot a knife‑wielding woman Saturday after authorities say she ignored commands and advanced on officers.
Her condition wasn't immediately known, according to the Irving Police Department.
Officers had responded at about 5:50 p.m. to a domestic disturbance in progress in the 300 block of Rolston Road, authorities said.
Police said the woman had been standing in the street with the weapon, making threats.
"Officers gave the suspect verbal commands, but she failed to comply and continued moving toward them," Irving police said in a news release.
Police said an officer used a less‑lethal weapon, which wasn't identified, striking the suspect, but it didn't stop her. A second officer then fired their duty weapon, striking her.
Officers provided medical aid until fire department personnel arrived and took her to a hospital. No officers were injured.
Multiple investigations are underway, including the department's criminal and administrative reviews, per standard procedure, and one by the Dallas County Public Integrity Unit, police said.
"This investigation is in its very early stages, and no additional information is available at this time," Irving police said.
CBS News Texas will provide updates when more information becomes available.
