Officer shot, suspect dead after police chase in North Texas, officials say
An officer was shot and a suspect is dead after a chase ended with a shooting in Burleson, officials said.
City of Burleson officials said the call came in just after 7 p.m. near the Sam's Club on the I-35W service road, near 174, or 600 N. Burleson Blvd.
The city spokesperson said the officer was shot in the leg and is not from the Burleson Police Department. The Cleburne mayor said the officer is with the Cleburne Police Department. The suspect was fatally shot.
The pursuit involved multiple agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety. Burleson police were not involved in the shooting.
Burleson and Cleburne police are on the scene and said there is no known risk to the public. Expect very heavy police activity, and please avoid the area.
The investigation into the shooting will be handled by the Texas Rangers.
