Texas Budget Cuts Could Affect Domestic Violence Victims
AUSTIN (KRLD 1080) - Victims of sexual assault and domestic violence met with state lawmakers in Austin Monday, asking that they not cut funding for those services even in tight budget times.
Leandra Krueger says those services helped her recover from what happened to her five years ago today.
"It was them that helped me learn to trust again, to laugh again, to enjoy my life, something he took from me," she said. "He robbed me of the joy that I once had with my children, with my family."
Krueger was sexually assaulted while she was heavily sedated by her doctor in an exam room. She says her recovery wouldn't have happened without those services supported in part by state funding.
