NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (CBS11) – While many high school teenagers are soaking in the sun and relaxing during summer vacation, 180 others from across the country have come to North Texas for a major community service project.

The program is being sponsored by World Changers.

They have teamed up with local and non-local teenagers and invited them to help with home makeovers for needy residents.

"It's a hands on mission experience,"  said Shawn Edwards, the project coordinator. "For many of them this is the first they do something like this."

The teens work includes painting homes, changing siding and installing fences to name a few.

"Serving people through this community, it's been really great," said Esther Yi, a teen from Atlanta.

Helen Parks of North Richland Hills is having her home spruced up by the teens.

"I would never be able to afford to pay for all of this," said Parks.  I just lost my husband and my mother."

The group of teens will be working on home makeovers in both Tarrant and Dallas County and they are expected to complete 40 projects while they're here.
