Tasha's To Do List: July 30 - Aug 2
KRLD -- A cold front is moving through North Texas this weekend (well, kind of). Take advantage of the sub-100 degree temps by exploring what DFW has to offer!
-- It is getting hotter and hotter, so stay cool this weekend at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden with August Dollar Days. The garden will offer $1 general garden admission and $2 Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden admission to all guests during August. There will also be select $1 and $2 food items throughout the gardens.
The Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden has more than 8,000 square feet of misting throughout the entire eight-acre garden, so there are cool places throughout to beat the heat. Plus, the theme of this garden is water, so there are plenty of areas with water including the waterfall and entry area with fountains.
-- If you were on the fence as to whether Tom Cruise was nutty, consider the fact that he is doing his own stunts in the latest Mission Impossible movie -- which involves riding on (not in) a plane. How fitting that Thursday night's Tough Guy Cinema at Alamo Drafthouse is a Mission Impossible Marathon.
-- Get some exercise and enjoy the moon at the same time with Thursday night's Blue Moon Paddle at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge.
-- I already loved Angelina Jolie, but this movie made me love her even more. Thursday night's Summer Movie Series at Fair Park is Maleficent.
-- Here is something cool to do Friday night. Friday Night Slides at Hawaiian Falls Waterpark will feature select slides with additional lighting. They will also have special glow in the dark merchandise which includes food and drinks…like L.E.D. enhanced shave ice and cotton candy.
-- The third annual Sausage Fest is happening this Saturday at Main Street Garden in downtown Dallas. This year's summer bash comes equipped with some of your favorite activities including sausage games with prizes, bikini bull riding, a celebrity squirrel and a dunk tank!
-- Celebrate the centennial of the birth of Billie Holiday, one of the world's most compelling and revered jazz singers at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Allen Public Library, 300 N. Allen Dr. Andrew Griffith leads this tribute to "Lady Day" that features selections of the artist's catalog sung by Dallas vocalist Leena Conquest, accompanied by Roger Boykin on keys and Jonathan Fisher on acoustic bass. Call 214-509-4911.
-- The North Dallas Toy Show is back this Saturday at Valley View Center.
-- Get the kids out of the house this weekend and do something educational at the same time. The Raptors of Summer event Saturday at Blackland Prairie Raptor Center will teach you everything you ever wanted to know about these big birds. You can meet them close up, hike some trails and check out the new Bird Blind which allows you to see many different types of birds.
-- From flamingo chicks to lion and jaguar cubs, the Fort Worth Zoo's baby boom is reason for celebration, so welcome the new arrivals at a weekend-long party. The Baby Bash lasts all day Saturday during Zoo hours.
-- Whether you like Texas Red Dirt country or classic country, we have you covered this weekend. See the Randy Rogers Band/Stoney LaRue at Gexa Saturday.
-- Janie Fricke is playing the Kessler on Saturday.
-- Alson on Saturday, Tanya Tucker is playing at Billy Bob's.
-- Now, if 80's rock is your thing, see Lillian Axe Saturday at Gas Monkey Bar and Grill. BTW, it is a free show.
-- If you are more about 90's rock, Alice in Chains is playing Winstar Casino on Saturday.
-- Like your rock a tad on the evil side? Then be at Sunday's Mayhem Festival at Gexa with Slayer-King Diamond and Hell Yeah.
-- Help find some furry babies forever homes while showing of your bowling skills this Sunday with The League of Animal Protectors Strikes for Strays at Plano Superbowl.
