Suspect Shot With Stun Gun, Arrested After Attacking Man With Large Knife
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) –Officers shot a belligerent suspect with a stun gun who allegedly tried to assault a man with a large knife or machete, a spokesman said Saturday.
Police were called to a disturbance at the Oasis Apartments in the 2700 block of East Ledbetter Drive at about 3:15 p.m. The suspect, who police did not identify Saturday evening, was involved in an argument with his female neighbor.
The argument escalated, and police said the suspect began chasing the woman with a large knife, which may have been a machete. When the woman's boyfriend wandered outside to see the commotion, the suspect allegedly swung the knife at the man.
The neighbor and her boyfriend ran inside, locked the door and called police. When officers arrived, the suspect was belligerent and resisted arrest, but did not have the knife. A spokesman said the suspect was shot with a stun gun and arrested.
Dallas Police spokesman Warren Mitchell said he believes the man will be charged with two cases of aggravated assault and one or two cases of assault on a public servant.
An officer left the struggle scraped and bruised, Mitchell said, and is recovering at Parkland Hospital. Mitchell added the man was more shaken up than physically hurt.
