Supporters & Protestors Prepare For Trump Rally

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Activists on both ends of the political spectrum were getting ready on Sunday night for Donald Trump's visit to Dallas. The Republican frontrunner has promised to hold one of his campaign's biggest political rallies at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Monday.

More than 17,000 people are expected to attend the rally. But before that, thousands more are expected to march from across town in protest of the candidate.

Sold out for days, you can still get on a waiting list to get tickets to the Trump rally. But if you really want to be there, scalpers on eBay may be your best bet. The candidate leads the polls with 29 percent of the vote in Iowa and 40 percent of the vote in New Hampshire.

However, not everyone is ready to welcome Trump to Texas. Giant Donald Trump pinatas are one part of a large-scale protest planned before the Monday rally. "We're making fun of Mr. Trump. He really is a clown. We're going to let America know that the clown has no clothes tomorrow, and the pinatas are part of that show," explained LULAC Council 102 president Domingo Garcia.

But the protest is no joke. Garcia is scheduled to lead demonstrators on a march through Dallas, from The Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe all the way to the American Airlines Center.

"We take it seriously," Garcia said. "We know that, in 1933, another politician in Germany scapegoated a group, Jews, and was able to get elected, and we understand that that's a powerful message that he can use to get elected, and that's why we want to start pushing back right now."

Meanwhile, Trump's supporters are very excited see the GOP frontrunner hold a major event in Dallas, and some say Trump's divisive effect on the voters is not a problem. "I think all politicians are divisive figures. They only win with 50, 51, 52 percent. That means 48, 49 percent hate them or don't like them, so you don't have to have everybody's approval all the time," Trump supporter Tony Okrongly said.

Okrongly stated that Trump's popularity among supporters shows that he is connecting with voters who the other candidates cannot reach. "People are desperate for someone who doesn't lie to them, and that's what Trump looks like. He looks like he's actually saying what he believes and will do what he says," Okrongly said.

Some supporters -- along with some community activists -- arrived at the American Airlines Center hours early.

"We are very excited to be here," said Trump supporter John Rhodes on Monday. "We've been waiting ever since he said he's coming to Dallas. Couldn't wait to find out how to get down here and get to his event."

Protestors will meet at the cathedral at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. They plan to arrive at the American Airlines Center at 6:00 p.m. when the rally is set to begin. Doors to the rally open at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. A spokesperson for the arena said that security will be in place, and Trump's camp is now allowing signs or banners inside.

Right after the Dallas speech, Trump will be back on a plane and heading to Los Angeles.
