Sumlin's Switch From Defense To Offense Pays Off

COLLEGE STATION (AP) - Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin has led one of the top five offenses in the country in four of the five seasons since becoming a head coach.

But if not for a push from Mike Price 23 years ago, Sumlin might have ended up focused more on how to stop offenses rather than creating them.

Price gave him his first job as a graduate assistant on defense at Washington State. He summoned him into the office on day and told him if he learned the offense they were running: `You'll have a job the rest of your life somewhere.'

Price has been right. In his first year at Texas A&M, Sumlin has the No. 9 Aggies in position for their first 10-win season since 1998 when they play Missouri on Saturday.
