Steelers, Packers Fans Descend On Downtown Fort Worth
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - If Saturday's heavy rush is any indication, Steelers and Packers fans have officially arrived in Downtown Fort Worth. Most, however, admit they're locals.
"It's kind of nice to see Steelers fans walking around down here," said Jeff Fetsko, a North Texas resident and Steelers fan.
Businesses were slammed with customers wanting a piece of the Super Bowl frenzy. But they weren't alone: 8-year-old Blair Ingram-Everett took advantage of all the football fans in Sundance Square. which also serves as home-base for ESPN's Super Bowl operations.
She didn't too bad selling her Girl Scout cookies.
"218 (boxes), probably," she said smugly.
Area Steelers fans are happy to spend money in Fort Worth. Fetsko said he spent $500 in one store.
"Being as this is Cowboy Country, it's hard to find Steelers gear. So we thought we'd come to Fort Worth, see what ESPN had set up and found a couple of local shops selling Steelers gear," he said.
Saturday night gave businesses an idea of the coming storm. Al Muric, owner of restaurant Picci Pacci, said the Super Bowl will bring him thousands of dollars in profits.
"This week it started good, but tonight is the best night," Muric said. "Imagine next week from Monday."
Some Steelers fans even said they're staying at the Omni in Downtown Fort Worth. That's where the players will be staying once they arrive.
Fans who can't afford to go to the Super Bowl say they'll do what they can to be closer to their teams.
