Spotty Showers For DFW Before Severe Storms

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Spot storms are possible until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, with a 20 percent chance of rain. Otherwise, just look for windy and warm conditions across the area, with high temperatures in the 80s and winds out of the south at 15 to 25 mph.

Saturday will start out cloudy and finish partly cloudy, just like on Friday, but winds will pick up from the south at 20 to 30 mph, as a storm system in Colorado strengthens. The winds may be strong enough to warrant a Wind Advisory. Spot storms will be possible, again, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Our atmosphere will be strongly capped, and this will keep the severe weather threat down for all of North Texas, until the evening hours for western areas. Look for a high temperature of 83 degrees and a 30 percent chance of rain.

While things are staying quiet in North Texas, all of the ingredients will be coming together for a major severe weather outbreak in Oklahoma and Kansas. That area is under a High Risk for severe storms, with tornadoes likely. There could also be an isolated severe storm for the northwestern parts of North Texas -- with large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

During the late evening hours, a squall will develop to our west. The main storm event for the DFW area is expected to start up Sunday morning and into the afternoon hours. Damaging winds, lots of lightning and spots of large hail will be the biggest threats. The storm line should stick around in North Texas through the afternoon, with flooding and heavy rain becoming more likely as the storms translate east.

After that, storm chances are completely out of the weather forecast for Monday, and all of next week looks beautiful with high temperatures in 70s and dry conditions.
