Southlake Church Lights The Way With 3-D Display

SOUTHLAKE (CBSDFW.COM) - In the Spirit of Christmas Future, a Southlake Church is putting on what could possibly be the only big, outdoor, 3-D holiday display in the country.

The display made its debut Wednesday night at White Chapel United Methodist Church. Hundreds came to see it and they were not disappointed.

Dr. John McKellar is the Senior Pastor at the church.  "I saw this technology a few years ago at Disneyworld, but Never imagined in my wildest dreams that we could have it at a church," McKellar said.

The idea came from Tim Georgeff, their Creative Arts Director. "It's something I dreamed about a year ago," he said.

Georgeff didn't even have to string one light for it. Because the images are projected onto the front of the church building.

Creede McMeans, one of the teenage church members said, "I love it. It's just, I don't know, big."

Marshall Brooke, another teenager, said, "The effects were really cool how they came out. It almost looked like a Pixar movie or something, you know?"

Three outdoor projectors, used for the display, cost $250,000 each. The display costs $100,000 a week.

Before you say "Oh! Oh! Oh!" You should know that a church member loaned them all the equipment for free. It is a free gift for everyone.

Marshall Brooke thought that was cool.

"Anyone driving past can see it. Anyone. Church Member or not can come and see it. I mean, it's for everyone."

It is the real message of Christmas.

The six minute holiday display plays over and over for two hours starting at 6:30pm. It runs every night until Christmas Eve.
