Sonu And Seahawks Surprise With Magic
By Cory Mageors | @inthemageors
105.3 THE FAN -- Sunday I finished up a series of appearances at Redneck Heaven, getting people prepared for Fan Bowl 2015 at the location in Arlington and watching some NFC Championship football, which should have been the Cowboys at Seattle.
There is nothing that will convince me that the Cowboys would not have beaten Seattle. In the first half, the Packers controlled the field, they worked the ball in the soft spots of the Seahawks coverage and they had a nice lead.
But in the second half, A) the Seahawks made the adjustments B) the Packers coasted in weak coverages allowing Russell Wilson to make big plays down field.
While I was sitting around, I felt like I was watching a little magic happen right in front of my eyes.
One of my favorite things about doing these appearances is meeting new Fan Fans and learning fascinating new things about them.
I've met Fed Ex and UPS drivers, guys with their own flooring businesses, a guy that flies 747's, hooka bar owners, chefs, doctors and so much more. I like to learn about our audience because it helps me realize one thing.
No matter what we do, we're all connected by sports. Sometimes it's not sports, because Kevin and I have met hundreds of fans who say they don't listen to our show for the sports talk, they listen for the funny bits.
But an occasion like Sunday, it was all about playoff football.
Chris Arnold and I are sitting there at a table watching the Seahawks getting picked apart by Aaron Rodgers talking about the same thing -- should have been the Cowboys rolling over Seattle. We also started to look into the future and debate the merits of drafting a quarterback in the first round, and how exciting the future of this team is. Seriously, the Cowboys have a billion off season storylines, and it all revolves around the success of the team this year.
Think about this for a second:
• Re-signing linebackers
• Re-signing Dez
• Re-signing DeMarco
• Re-signing Coaching staff
• Draft
• Will they repeat success?
• Competition on the defensive side of the ball in training camp
• Will Romo's back be ready to go?
• Will Sean Lee make it?
The list of storylines can go on forever. But I digress.
A couple of guys join us at the table, and a couple more until we have a nice little group of people kicking back, drinking beers and talking football.
All of a sudden a man is standing next to us and Chris says "this is the guy I was telling you about."
His name was Sonu Varkey…and he calls himself a deception specialist. We called him Magic!
I asked him if he could do a couple of videos with us and he threw these magic tricks out at us.
He made my money float, and he stabbed my dollar bill with a pen -- but there was no hole! It was yet another Fan Fan who amazes me.
