Social Media Meets Classic TV
I was born during the golden age of television. Everything was over the air, cable was just getting started but more in rural areas, no satellite TV, and none of the choices of 300 plus channels. In the DFW area, we had Channels 4, 5, 8, 11, 13 on the VHF side and then 21, 27, 33, and 39 on the UHF side. And some of the best television programming that ever was made was during that time.
I often wondered if Twitter had been around back then, what sort of Twitter names these characters would have had? Well, I offer my humble suggestions for your consideration:
-- Irene Ryan (Granny Clampett in The Beverly Hillbillies): @ozarkmoonshiner
-- Perry Mason (Raymond Burr in Perry Mason): @LAsuavelawyer
-- Della Street (Barbara Hale in Perry Mason): @hotlegalsecretary
-- Paul Drake (William Hopper in Perry Mason): @LAgumshoe
-- Ted Baxter (Ted Knight in The Mary Tyler Moore Show): @WJMTVvainanchor
-- George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley in The Jeffersons) @NYCleanersonenearyou
-- Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood in Rawhide) @Texascattleboss
-- Lisa Douglas (Eva Gabor in Green Acres): @Hootersvillefarmwife
-- The Three Stooges @Thosethreegoofs
-- Ward Cleaver (Hugh Beaumont in Leave It To Beaver): @Allamericandad
-- Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond in Leave It To Beaver) @Mayfieldwiseguy
If you have an idea for a Twitter name for a TV character from yesteryear, send it to me at kenf@ktvt.com and I will include it in a future blog.
See you next time.
