Sixth Grader Arrested After Bringing Gun To School

MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - A Mesquite 6th grader was arrested after bringing a loaded gun to school.

Police said the 12-year-old brought the loaded handgun to Terry Middle school in his backpack and hid it in his locker. They say he showed it to other students but made no threats. Those students notified officials who confronted the student and called police.

Authorities recovered the .380 from the locker, which they found to be inoperable due to a malfunction.

The child was taken to the police station. No word yet on why he brought the gun. The school was never on a lockdown and no one was injured.
Parents were immediately notified through the school alert system.
