Sex Assault Suspect Kills Himself After Chase
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A sexual assault suspect led several law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase along multiple DFW interstates on Tuesday night, and then shot himself once he was cornered by officers.
The Balch Springs Police Department said that, at around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday night, they tried to serve a 26-year-old man with a warrant for four counts of sexual assault on a child. He fired shots at them and took off in a white pickup truck with a trailer attached. That man was later identified by the Dallas County Medical Examiner as Noah Timmons.
The suspect then led authorities on a chase for nearly two hours, along several North Texas roadways including Interstate-635 and Interstate-30, at speeds up to 100 mph, dodging spike strips along the way. Police were able to stop the suspect shortly after 10:00 p.m. as he traveled westbound on Interstate-30, near the Bass Pro Road exit in Garland.
By that time, law enforcement officers from Balch Springs, Mesquite, Garland, the Dallas County Sheriff's Office and the Dallas Police Department's Air One helicopter were tracking the suspect. During the chase, police said that the suspect was driving erratically and firing shots from a handgun.
Police confirmed that the suspect fatally shot himself after he lost control of his truck and crashed into the highway's center median. "It does tell you something about his demeanor, about that type of a person," said Lt. Mark Maret of the Balch Springs Police Department. "Obviously, with the four sexual assaults of a child, that tells you a lot right there in itself."
