Severe Weather/Flood Threat This Afternoon and Evening

Storms have already started to develop across the metro area, mostly confined to southern Tarrant and northern Johnson counties. This activity is drifting into Dallas and Ellis. These do not pose a severe threat.

A large mass of storms are ready to cross the Red River and move right into North Texas:

A Thunderstorm Watch Box will likely come out in the next hour for our NW corner, it could include the Metroplex. A complex of storms is coming out of Oklahoma towards north Texas. Currently they are not producing severe weather but could when they reach our area.

Strong winds and moderate sized hail will be the severe weather threat.

I anticipate a rather large rain event this afternoon in and around the metroplex. Areas just to the east of downtown Dallas (Rockwall over into southern Collin and central Hunt counties) got 2"-3" of rain last night.

If these large, slow moving storms move into these areas we could get significant urban flooding.

I consider the severe weather risk small at this time, at least until we get into the evening hours and an upper air disturbance moves over us. Across the afternoon the Flash Flooding risk is high in the areas circled above.

Below is the area circled the Storm Prediction Center is considering a T'Storm Watch this afternoon. It is more centered on Wichita Falls then on DFW:
