NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Aside from costly damage to homes and cars, heavy rains and possible hail expected Tuesday evening can impact North Texans in another way -- snakes!

The heavy rains during the last few weeks have lead to more snake sightings than ever across the metroplex. Manager for the Prosper Parks and Recreation Department, Will Mitchell said many of the snakes habitats were washed away.

"The most common snake seen around here is the copper head. There is also the cotton mouth or water moccasin as well. But the copper head is most prevalent," said Mitchell.

He said both those snakes are poisonous and if you see one, leave it alone and if a snake bite does occur, seek medical attention immediately.
