Second Lewisville Gas Leak In Less Than A Week
LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - For the second time in less than a week utility workers in Lewisville spent the day trying to locate and repair a gas leak.
On January 11 a ruptured gas line, leak and subsequent house explosion took the life of one man and injured two firefighters. Tuesday Atmos Energy was once again working to repair a gas leak in a residential area less than two miles away from the initial leak.
According to city leaders, Atmos had scheduled the repair of a gas line on Price Street. Shortly after the crew started work a resident called the Lewisville Fire Department.
"There was a gas line under repair along a residential street and there was a whiff of gas that indicated there was some sort of a leak involved," explained city spokesman James Kunke.
Officials say precautionary steps were taken in the area, near Interstate-35 and Fox Avenue. "So the fire department responded and did evacuate the house adjacent to the leak and two more downwind as a precaution," Kunke said.
On Friday it took nearly 7 hours to shut off gas service to the leak in the 500 block of E. Main Street. Tuesday it took much less time after workers dug a hole in the front yard of the home where the leak occurred.
Video from Chopper 11 showed a backhoe working at the scene and number of utility and fire department personnel assisting.
The leak was coming from a connector in the line. No one was injured in this gas leak incident.
