Search Underway For Missing Kayaker In Trinity River

UPDATE 8:30 p.m., Saturday: Police have identified the missing man as Edgar Castro.
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Search and rescue crews are looking for a missing kayaker in the Trinity River. They're combing the west fork in Fort Worth and west Fort Worth for a man who may have drowned in the water.
"There's always a concern, particularly after the heavy rain events we've had in the last two months, that it washes additional debris into the water so we always advise people to be careful and always wear a personal floatation device when you're in the river," said Lt. Kyle Falkner of the Fort Worth Fire Department.
Two young men in their late teens or early '20s overturned their kayaks at the River Oaks Crossing. One of them made it to safety, and witnesses along the trail called for help. The fire department's swift water rescue team came on the scene right away, but couldn't locate the second man.
Texas Parks and Wildlife boat equipped with side scan sonar swept the area at least twice with no luck. Authorities tell us the river is especially dangerous now.
Family members of the missing man tried to console each other as the search dragged on; they were eventually led to a local shelter to wait for word out of the scorching sun.
The river is so strong a local outfitter hasn't rented out boats or other equipment for weeks.
