The body of a 1-year-old boy has been recovered after a car crashed into the Trinity River, officials confirmed Sunday morning. His mom, who is in the hospital, was pulled from the vehicle the night before.

Just before 6 p.m. Saturday, Fort Worth police were called to the area of Beach Street and East Freeway, near the Trinity River Bridge, where a vehicle was reported to have gone into the river and submerged.

Responding officers saw the car and jumped in the water.

Fort Worth police said a woman was pulled out of the vehicle and life-saving procedures were performed. She was taken to the nearest hospital in critical condition.

The vehicle was pulled out of the water late Saturday night.

Police said the call details also said an infant was in the car. Jasmine Robinson, who is the sister of the woman pulled from the river, told CBS News Texas that her 1-year-old nephew, Jonas Allen was possibly inside the vehicle.

Robinson said police informed the family of the incident involving her sister Saturday evening. She said she spoke with her sister a couple of hours before the crash when she came to pick up her nephew from their mother's house.

"It was just a shock," Robinson said after police told her family what happened.

"She's a great person, she loves her kids and she's fighting for her life right now," Robinson said. "I just want her to be okay."

Robinson's sister is now in an induced coma.

The Fire Department dive team and others searched the river until nearly 10 p.m. Saturday, Fort Worth police said. The search resumed for Robinson's nephew at about 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

"All we can do right now is give it over to the Lord and send up our prayers," Robinson said.

At about 11:55 a.m., Texas Game Wardens confirmed that a body had been recovered late Sunday morning. The Fort Worth Police Department later confirmed it was the 1-year-old boy of the woman who was hospitalized.
