Say Goodbye To The Heat, North Texas!
646 UPDATE: Severe T'storm Warning for parts of Henderson, Kaufman, Ellis and Navarro Counties until 745pm. Here's a radar snapshot when warning came out. 1" hail reported near Cryer Creek in Navarro Co from this storm.
UPDATE: 550pm - A few isolated showers and thunderstorms are bubbling up ahead of main cluster of storms. Greatest severe threat still appears to be south of Metroplex, but can't rule out an isolated hailer or wind producer this evening. Looks like greatest coverage on rain for metro area may hold off until 8pm and later, but before then spotty showers and thunderstorms. Below is a storm near Seagoville as of 550pm that could produce penny hail and winds to 50 mph.
SAY GOODBYE TO THE HEAT NORTH TEXAS…
For the past two weeks everyday has featured above average temperatures with highs ranging from 85 to 93 degrees. In fact 4 of the first 7 days of May have featured highs at or above 90 degrees. Say goodbye to the heat, for at least the rest of the week and probably until the middle of next week.
A cold front has moved thru DFW and winds have shifted to the north. Cooler air has been slow to arrive but it is coming. In fact at 3pm, it was 87 degrees at DFW but just down the way in Decatur is was 79 degrees. That was mainly because of cloud cover just to our north, but clouds will be arriving this evening and cooler air from the north will win out. Oklahoma City today stayed in the 60s.
WATCHING STORMS TO THE SOUTH…
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect for far southern sections of North Texas. Comanche, Hamilton, Bosque and Hill County are included in this watch which lasts until 11pm.
This big cluster of storms to in the Edwards Plateau area of West Texas will move primarily eastward this evening. But outflow from these storms will move northward this evening which will likely trigger storms over the rest of North Texas. There is the chance a few of these could produce some strong winds and large hail this far north, but the greater chance will be in Central Texas. Coverage on the rain looks to be rather high so take a long an umbrella if you plan to be outside and be ready for lightning too.
COOLER AND WET TOMORROW…
Temperatures will stay in the 70s tomorrow thanks to cloud cover and rain in the area. We will likely see periods of light to moderate rain at times during the day tomorrow. It will almost feel more like a fall day than a spring day as winds will be light out of the north and temps on the cool side. No severe weather is expected on Tuesday.
DRY MIDDLE OF THE WEEK…
The cold front should push far enough south to keep us dry on Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will be very pleasant with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s these two days. Cloud cover will be more tricky as at least the southern half of North Texas will likely see mostly cloudy skies and the northern part of North Texas will likely see some sunshine. Where the cloud cut-off line forms will have an impact on temperatures.
MORE RAIN POSSIBLE FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND…
An upper level disturbance will move across Texas on Friday and the weekend and bring more rain chance for us. Severe weather is not expected at this time as we will stay in the cooler air. Rain chances will linger into Saturday and possibly Sunday as the computer models are having a tough time agreeing on when to move the rain out.
