PUERTO AVENTURAS, Mexico (AP) -- TCU's determined approach to take the ball to the rim brought the team from behind Tuesday against Rhode Island, but the Rams responded with big shots and tough defense in the final minute to post a 66-60 victory in the Cancun Challenge tournament.
Graduate transfer Four McGlynn (18 points) drained a long 3-pointer with 45 seconds left to push Rhode Island up, 61-57, and junior Hassan Martin (14 points) blocked a layup 10 seconds later that put the Rams in control.
TCU was forced to foul in hopes of managing another comeback, but Rhode Island (which shot 21 of 33 from the line) converted enough to preserve the win.
Taking just four 3-pointers in the second half, TCU relied on its full roster offensively to slowly claim the lead after trailing most of the night.
A tough baseline jumper from Karviar Shepherd pushed the Frogs up, 57-54, with 3:10 to go, but the Rams reclaimed the lead on bucket and free throw by Martin to make it 58-57 with 1:33 remaining.
Vladimir Brodziansky hit a shot to put TCU up 55-52 before Rhode Island stormed back to take the lead.
McGlynn led the Rams (3-1) with 18 points, Martin added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Jared Terrell scored 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Brandon Parrish scored 13 points (10 in the first half) for TCU (2-2), and three players closed with eight points -- Brodziansky, Shepherd and Devonta Abron.
TCU shot 40 percent from the field and had 12 turnovers.
