Residents Near Lake Lewisville Worried About Weekend Flooding

LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Residents near Lake Lewisville are bracing themselves for its waters to spill over onto roads this weekend.

Already hard hit by flooding, the city's Emergency Operations Center has closed many sections of the lake. Unfortunately, closing those sections won't stop the water from rising and threatening nearby homes.

"It does get nerve racking," said resident Barbara Miller who has slowly watched the lake creep closer and closer to her home."It's getting a little eerie when you see people fishing off of your street."

Lewisville emergency management said the lake is just one foot away from an uncontrolled release at the spillway. Crews expect it to happen this weekend.

It's an expectation that doesn't sit well with Lewisville Lake resident Michael Ahern. He remembers when the lake spilled over in 2007.

"Well you can sandbag in front of your house. The effort if you're trying to keep out Mother Nature and if she keeps on raining, it's just going to keep on going," said Ahern.

For people who aren't prepared to place sandbags on their lawns, there's always another comfy alternative to staying home when the lake rises.

"People get concerned. We will go to the hotel for sure," said Miller, who is ready to replace her belongings should a flood wash them away.

Lewisville Emergency Management crews are monitoring the situation around the clock. They have advised people to pay attention and stay away from high water areas.
