Reno Road Construction Project Proves Controversial
RENO (CBSDFW.COM) - Living along Pleasant Run in Reno outside Fort Worth hasn't been very pleasant for some homeowners.
"We shouldn't have to live like this," said Debbie Reeves who lives on that street. "First you had to drive like you were drunk to miss all the holes you know."
The road is littered with potholes. Across town, Tower Street isn't any better.
In fact, it's not even paved.
"At times it's pretty traitorous," said Sherri Mitchell who lives on Tower Street.
Pleasant Run will be re-paved soon after homeowners started a petition. But Tower Street won't see any changes.
Some residents think there's a reason for that: Council Member Loyd Bailey who lives on Pleasant Run.
"It's just terrible slinging gravel," Bailey said.
Recently the city council approved to repave the road. The price tag was about $30,000 to fix a mile long road.
Bailey voted in favor of the project.
"Well that's not fair this road is pretty bad," says Mitchell.
Mayor Roen Cox is frustrated. He said he hoped the council would have tried to help those who are still dealing with a gravel road.
"This is probably the worst road that we have in Reno," Cox said of Tower Street. "We should do what's right for the greater good of the city and even through these people live out in the fringes of the city not the central core where there are paved road there are still citizens of Reno."
Bailey insists the repaving project has nothing to do with him living along Pleasant Run.
"I don't think it's true I think it's because the people voiced their opinion," he said.
Work on Pleasant Run is expected to start in a few weeks.
Cox is working with homeowners on Tower Street to see what else can be done.
