Red Cross To Try To Prepare North Texans For Future Severe Weather

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Two weeks after a deadly tornado outbreak hit North Texas, American Red Cross volunteers will fan out in communities in South Dallas and Glenn Heights to educate residents on how to stay safe during future episodes of severe weather.
100 volunteers will go door-to-door to help residents designate a safe room in their home, ensure they recognize dangerous weather signs and are prepared with resources such as an emergency kit and the Red Cross tornado app that provides severe weather alerts and other tools direct to mobile devices.

tornado safety information.
In South Dallas, volunteers will be in neighborhoods within: E. Keist Blvd to Ann Arbor Ave. and S. Marsalis Ave. to Sunnyvale St.
Since the tornado outbreak on December 26th, the Red Cross says it has provided more than 500 overnight stays in 6 shelters across the area, supplied residents with more than 24,000 clean-up supplies and comfort items and served more than 18,000 meals and snacks.
Caseworkers continue to meet with families one on one to help them map out the road to recovery.
Trained Red Cross mental health specialists are also on hand to talk with anyone needing emotional support.
