FLOWER MOUND (CBSDFW.COM) - A recent audit by Waste Management uncovered crews disposed of collected recyclable materials at a landfill instead of a recycling facility.
In a news release, the town of Flower Mound said Waste Management notified them that a portion of the recyclables from 13 communities in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, including Flower Mound, were wrongly dumped in a landfill periodically during a two-year period.
As a result of the audit, Waste Management said it has terminated the management employees associated with this situation and reinforced the importance of proper collection and delivery of all recyclable materials.
Waste Management has also informed the Town that additional processes and audit checkpoints have been added and employees have been retrained to ensure this does not happen again.
The Town of Flower Mound said in its news release, "while this is an unfortunate situation, it appreciates Waste Management being forthcoming. All Flower Mound residents are encouraged to continue recycling their materials."
