Reata Restaurant Serves Police Officers Complimentary Lunch
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A Fort Worth Restaurant known for its Texas cowboy-inspired cuisine is tipping its cap to the Fort Worth Police Department.
The owners of Reata decided from now through the end of the year, cash from Fort Worth cops isn't any good. Every officer's lunch will be complimentary.
Mike Micallef, co-owner of Reata says, "We want to make sure the police know they're appreciated by us. We couldn't be successful without a safe city."
The men and women in uniform are truly touched.
"In this time where things are so tumultuous out in the field where officers feel they might not have the support of the public, to see this in our area is just overwhelming," says Sgt. Steve Enright who dined with more than a dozen colleagues around 11:30 a.m. Friday.
"I'd like to thank the Reata for doing this. You can't really put into words. It's really something we needed," says Officer Glen Edney who adds, "lunch was outstanding."
The mood toward police officers nationwide has been greatly impacted by isolated deadly incidents. Officers say they feel it daily. A simple gesture like a free lunch leaves them knowing on the whole, they are indeed appreciated.
"It's very unsettling for guys in our job," says Officer Jim Grow. "We almost feel like we're in a can't win situation so when someone does something like this for us we're very grateful. It lets us know people do support what we do."
Reata has a restaurant in the small west Texas town of Alpine and they're doing the same thing for officers there.
