Rangers Outright Three, Including German
Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers outrighted infielder Esteban German and pitchers Dough Mathis and Brandon McCarthy off the 40-man roster Friday.
All three players will now become free agents.
German was a September call-up and went 3-for-13 with an RBI, four stolen bases and five runs scored over 13 games. At Triple-A Oklahoma City, he batted .280 with five homers and 55 RBI in 126 games. Also, he finished second in the Pacific Coast League with 50 steals.
Mathis made the opening roster and wound up splitting time with Texas and Oklahoma City. He went 1-1 with a 6.04 earned run average in 13 relief appearances with the Rangers. In 18 game (15 starts) with Oklahoma City, he was 5-7 with a 5.66 ERA.
McCarthy did not appear in the majors this season. He was 4-2 with a 3.36 ERA in 11 games (nine starts) with Oklahoma City. He was on the disabled list three different times this season and ended the season on Texas' 60-day DL with right shoulder inflammation.
