Rangers, Arlington Finally Getting Proper Respect

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Watch a Cowboys game, and you'll hear plenty about Dallas, but you won't hear so much about Arlington, where they actually play.  "I thought that was Dallas," admits visiting New York Giants fan Carol Tirado.

Even the announcers from time to time slip up, much to Mayor Robert Cluck's disappointment.  "When we first started playing, it was very disturbing to me because we had spent lots of money building the stadium," says Mayor Cluck.

Over the next few months though, the city is playing host to both the World Series and the Super Bowl, giving it an opportunity to seize the spotlight.

It doesn't hurt the Rangers are much more closely linked to the city with their "Ballpark in Arlington."

The Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau says it is partnering with the Rangers, the Cowboys, and Six Flags over Texas to market what the city has to offer.  It's also reminding visiting media exactly where they are.  "We're helping them learn.  It's not Dallas.  It's Arlington," said Mayor Cluck.

The mayor says it's sinking in, and more new businesses are expressing interest in moving to town as a result.  Visiting sports fans also say, it's becoming harder to overlook the city with the high profile games it's attracting.

"It's going to get its own place on the map now… It's a star on the map now," said New York Giants fan Robert MacArthur.
