Rainfall: How Far Are We Behind?

Last night on CBS 11 News at 10pm, I showed this graphic illustrating how far behind we are on rainfall.  The real big number is the deficit over the past 3 years.  This goes back to October of 2010.

That deficit of over 23" over the past three years is why we are still in a drought and one of the reasons why our lake levels are down.

LAKE LEVELS

Here are the current lake levels.

LAKE LAVON

Let me take a closer look at Lake Lavon.  Below are some pictures that CBS 11 SKYTRACKER Larry Ciske sent me of Lake Lavon.  These were taken along US 380 on the northern part of the lake.  All the green grass you see should be underwater.

Lake Lavon is down nearly 12 feet.  And it is only 50% full right now.  Compare that to last year at this time when it was 68% full.

RAINFALL DEPARTURE

On the map below you will see the % of normal rainfall we have seen so far this year.  So for Dallas we have seen 81% of normal rainfall this year.

We need more rain and there is some rain in the forecast for the weekend.  Click on the link below to read about our rain chances.
