Prison Time For Fort Worth Man Who Stole From Family During Funeral

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - An 18-year-old man got an 18-year prison sentence Wednesday for burglarizing the home of a family while they attended their son's funeral.

Gilbert Rodriquez pleaded guilty to the crime, which he committed in December.

The house he burglarized belongs to Laura and Jaime Favela.  Their son Eric Trevino was killed in a car crash, and they were at his funeral when Rodriquez broke into their house.

The Tarrant County District Attorney's office says Rodriquez chose the home because he knew the Favelas were at the funeral.

Among other things, Rodriquez stole $800 the family had raised for their son's funeral expenses.

He'll be eligible for parole in six years.
