Power Outages Cancel Arlington ISD Classes
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The winter storm that blew through DFW was not nearly as bad as many people expected. There is no ice on the roads and no snow on the ground. So, why are hundreds of students in the Arlington Independent School District missing class on Monday?
Their schools are without power.
Oncor is working to restore electricity to Blanton Elementary School, Bebensee Elementary School and Boles Junior High School. Also, power was previously out at Martin High School, but it has since been restored. Many parents who dropped off their kids at the schools had to just turn around and pick them back up, making other plans for the day.
The four schools are not closed, but classes are not being held. Students are able to remain indoors on campus, but district officials are urging parents to pick up their children for the day. Students are not being penalized for being absent on Monday.
So, despite their being no snow, many kids in Arlington are getting a snow day. One student may have said it best on Twitter, tweeting, "Thank you, Jesus."
