Police Search For Suspect Who Attacked A Woman After Asking For Help

RICHARDSON (CBSDFW.COM)- Police are searching for a suspect involved in the aggravated assault of a woman that happened in Richardson Saturday morning.

Richardson Police say the victim was heading to an all-day baseball tournament at Breckenridge Park in Richardson when she was attacked.

She was driving in the 3500 block of Park Vista Road near the park when a jogger flagged her down just after 9:00 am.

"The guy was pretty frantic trying to wave her down. She stopped to see what the problem was. He told her that his dog had been injured in a wooded ditch line just off the roadway and he was asking for help," said Richardson police sergeant Kevin Perlich.

The victim got out of her car to assist him, but before she did, she grabbed something that would ultimately save her from greater harm.

She just had a little gut feeling that something was not just quite right. But yet she wanted to help this guy out. She kind of armed herself and prepared herself by grabbing her pepper spray, Perlich said.

The suspect pushed the victim down, pulled out a utility knife or box cutter and attempted to pull her into a nearby wooded area.

The victim used her pepper spray to fight off her attacker. He fled the scene. She escaped with minor injuries.

Kim Kimberlin attended the the all-day baseball tournament. Hours after the attack, she too had concerns about some of the wooded areas surrounding the park.

"I was just saying do you think this is safe because of the woods. We kind of got a weird feeling," said Kimberlin.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20 -30 years-of-age, short dark hair, blue eyes, clean shaven and approximately six feet tall with a slim build.  He was last seen wearing beige running shorts and a beige t-shirt.
