BALCH SPRINGS (CBSDFW.COM) - A woman from Balch Springs is behind bars on Tuesday, accused of causing the death of a 2-year-old boy, and then trying to raise the child from the dead in a religious ceremony. Aracely Meza is now being held on a $100,000 bond.

The 49-year-old suspect has been charged with injury to a child.

Meza and her husband operate a church out of their home. The victim's parents also lived at the home. Police said that the young boy was starved as part of a ritual to rid him of demons. This happened for 25 days before the toddler died.

"Didn't provide the nurturing care, the necessities for the child to be healthy," explained Pedro Gonzalez with the Balch Springs Police Department. "She neglected that, so we are charging her with a charge."

After the child passed, Meza allegedly performed a ceremony attempting to resurrect him from the dead.

Meza, along with her husband and the child's parents, then went to Mexico for the boy's burial. While the others are all still south of the border, Meza returned and was placed in police custody.

The suspect's husband, Daniel Meza, is also a part of this investigation, along with the boy's parents.
