EULESS (CBS11) - Uniting in support of a fallen brother, officers from around the country descended upon Euless Friday night to pay their last respects to Officer David Hofer.
Hofer was killed in the line of duty Tuesday while responding to a call at Carr Park.
"Was doing his regular job and this happens to him," said Detective Terry Shields with the Chicago Police Department.
Shields is among the several officers who traveled from states like New York and Colorado.
"He actually is a brother of ours. Law enforcement officers are tied together. We're all tied together by that little band of blue," said Shields.
Grapevine Police patrolled on Friday night to give Euless officers the night off from duty. On Saturday, Grand Prairie will take over patrol duties.
Keller dispatchers also volunteered all week.
Plano, Irving, Carrollton, Arlington and Mansfield Police are also taking part in the "honor guard" during the memorial service at Pennington Field in Bedford on Saturday.
"It could be any one of us law enforcement officers that this happened to. We do our job every day like this. It's what we do, we put our life on the line," said Shields. "We hope it's comforting to them and they know we're behind them and this is part of the brotherhood and this is one big family."
The public celebration of life begins at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
