PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A string of burglaries has put residents in Plano on edge. But the city's police department is hoping to relieve some of those fears with a special class being held on Wednesday night.
Investigators are still searching for the elusive evening burglar. Police have said that the same man is behind more than 20 home break-ins across Plano and Dallas. That includes seven homes within the Midway Meadows neighborhood, in far north Dallas, just within the past week and a half.
Each case is the same. The burglar breaks into a home between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and snatches jewelry and cash from the master bedroom.
There was actually an arrest over the weekend. Authorities caught 18-year-old Cedric Smith in a stolen car. Police think that he is behind at least four of the recent home burglaries, saying that he used a pellet gun to break into homes, some while homeowners were asleep inside.
But police have arrested four burglary suspects since December, and none seem to be the man thought to be connected to the evening break-ins.
The Plano Police Department is holding a crime prevention class at Plano City Hall on Wednesday night, and the event is expected to be packed. The 7:00 p.m. class will focus on how to protect your home from a possible burglar. Police will also be answering questions from concerned residents.
Authorities have already found that residents have formed neighborhood watch programs, and are reporting suspicious behavior. That should continue. If you see something out of the ordinary, you are advised to tell the police.
