PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Residents in a Plano neighborhood are still recovering after a frightening night that was caught on video. People who live along Silver Lake Drive had already settled in for the night when police noticed two men looking for unlocked cars to burglarize.

And when one of them ran into a nearby home, the family inside found themselves rustled from bed and face-to-face with an intruder.

A reverse 911 call went out to west Plano residents at 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, warning homeowners of a criminal on the loose in a neighborhood. Soon after, police officers with search dogs were going through backyards with guns drawn.

They were looking for a man running outside of Larry and Dana Freed's house. "It was quick. It was almost like you don't have time to be worried," said Larry. The Plano family of five received a knock at their front door just as one of the suspects walked through an unlocked back door.

The family's only weapon was the tone of a protective mother's voice. "All of a sudden, two guys are walking through this door and I'm like, 'What are you thinking? Get out of my house! Get out of my house!' and pushed them out the door," Dana said.

"Pretty gutsy, but that's right there with her personality," said Larry.

The suspect ran out of the house and toward waiting police patrol cars before turning around. He was eventually arrested.

Police and the homeowner said that the close call is a reminder to keep doors locked, even in safe neighborhoods. "If you leave doors unlocked, that's going to leave that crime of opportunity to any criminals that are out there," said Officer David Tilley of the Plano Police Department.

"You got to be vigilant right now. It's lock the door and keep the alarm on. I think we've taken that for granted, and we can't do that going forward," said Larry.

Police are still looking for the second suspect, who was able to get away.
