Petition Aims To Help Motorcyclists Park In DFW

DALLAS (CBS11) - Motorcyclists in Dallas are petitioning the City of Dallas and Mayor Mike Rawlings because they say parking on two wheels is a pain.

Some bikers feel right now there is not enough parking for them and they want "established, designated" parking section throughout the city.

Riders like Mike Kordash said he either takes up an entire car-sized parking spot or he parks on the sidewalk.

"I try to be respectful and park towards the front or the back for the car," said Kordash.

The problem supports say is that most spaces are rectangular-sized for one, single car.

Restaurant manager Jose Sanchez has a front-row seat to the predicament.

"I think maybe they should make a few spaces maybe just a little bit smaller for the motorcycles," said Sanchez.

That is the exact aim behind a new petition that has surfaced on line.

It's calling for changes to make better use of space, but riders feel there is a safety issue. Since it only takes a few people to pick up a motorcycle to steal, they feel they need high-visibility locations.

"There's going to be no conflict between regular cars and motorcycles. Everybody should be good," said Session Linsey, a Dallas driver.

Bikers like Kordash said the sooner the special spots start popping up in the city, the easier it will be for everyone no matter how many wheels they travel on in Dallas.

"Cars park, bikes need to park," said Kordash.
